Jamaica's International Grandmaster (GMI) Wayne ‘Shines’ Reid has made the nation proud once again, winning the Top Masters Division of the 2025 American Pool Checkers Association (APCA) Championships for the second time.
The 2025 prestigious American Pool Checkers Association (A.P.C.A.) Tournament/Championships concluded on the afternoon of July 10, 2025, at the Crowne Hotel in Jacksonville, Florida, USA, and was followed by an evening Banquet & Award Ceremony.
Reid's victory was impressive, as he outshone some of the world's best Pool Checkers Players to add to his 2023 title.
Notably, he finished 16 points ahead of the 17-time APCA Top Master Champion Grandmaster Alfred 'East Point' Barnett.
Two Ukrainians namely Vadym Lapin and Andriy Shcherbatyuk each defeated Alfred Barnett 1-0, forcing the American Grandmaster to settle for 4th place.
Reid secured first place as he ended the competition with the highest score and the best win ratio.
This level of dominant performance by Shines is significant given the competition format, and the caliber of Top Masters that competed in the 2025 APCA Championships.
Finishing so far ahead of Grandmaster Alfred Barnett who is widely regarded as the Best American Pool Checkers Player is a testament to GMI Reid's exceptional skill.
Both Reid and Jamaica Draughts Association President Jermaine Delattibudiere drew both games with the clever and strategic Lapin, who was gunning to win the tournament.
Lapin who has finished second to Alfred East Point Barnett twice, seemingly came to the tournament well prepared to take the APCA Top Masters Championship Title.
Lapin was ultimately forced to secured 2nd place again, while his fellow Ukrainian Andriy Shcherbatyuk took 3rd place.
Top Master Jermaine Delattibudiere also drew with Shcherbatyuk, showcasing his skill and resilience in the competition.
Reid, on the other hand, defeated Shcherbatyuk with one win and a draw game, demonstrating his ability to adapt and overcome different playing styles.
