Elaine Thompson for Birmingham Indoor meet on Saturday
2016 double Olympic gold medalist, Elaine Thompson, is currently in Birmingham, England where she will compete in the concluding leg of the IAAF World Indoor Tour on Saturday.
During the five-stop tour, athletes compete for a wildcard to enable them to return to the British city for next year’s IAAF World Indoor Championships.
In addition, the winners of each of the 11 scoring disciplines in this year’s IAAF World Indoor Tour win a US$20,000 bonus.
In Birmingham, Thompson, the 2016 World Indoor bronze medalist, will compete in the 60-metre dash where she will take on the likes of 2016 World Indoor champion, Barbara Pierre, fellow Jamaican Gayon Evans and Norway’s Ezinne Okparaebo.
The race represents the seasonal indoor debut for Thompson, who ran 7.02s outdoors at the National Stadium in Kingston at the end of January.
Also down to compete in the 60-metre dash is Thompson’s MVP club-mate Christania Williams, a finalist in the 100m at the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil. Williams was second to Thompson in Kingston in 7.05s.
Thompson’s teammates, Julian Forte, who will contest the 60-metre dash and sprint hurdler Megan Simmons, who was a semi-finalist at the 2016 Rio Games, are also down to compete.
